Colorado Rockies vs. New York Mets (Sat, July 30, 7:10 PM ET)
Line: Colorado Rockies at New York Mets – view all MLB lines
Pitching for the Rockies in this National League matchup is Jorge De La Rosa (6-7, 5.70 ERA). He was solid in his last start, allowing just two runs – one earned – over 6.1 innings in a no-decision Monday against the Baltimore Orioles. It was a huge bounce-back performance by De La Rosa who had allowed nine runs in his previous outing against the Tampa Bay Rays.
As for the Mets, they will have Bartolo Colon as their pitcher tonight. He will be starting a regular-season game on short rest for the first time since 2005. Colon tossed a gem in his last start, (9-5, 3.35 ERA) allowing just one run on three hits through seven innings in a 3-1 win Tuesday over the St. Louis Cardinals. The Mets have now won four of their last five games with Colon as their starter.
Writer’s Prediction
Colorado wins, 5-3.
Boston Red Sox vs. Los Angeles Angels (Sat, July 30, 9:05 PM ET)
Line: Boston Red Sox at Los Angeles Angels – view all MLB lines
Starting for the Boston Red Sox in the final game of this three-game set is Drew Pomeranz (8-8, 2.84 ERA). The lefty All-Star held the Detroit Tigers to two runs in six innings in his last start. It was a much improved performance from Pomeranz who lasted just three-plus innings in his Boston debut last week against the San Francisco Giants. Pomeranz has made three career starts and eight appearances against the Los Angeles Angels, posting a 4.24 ERA.
The Angels, on the other hand, will counter with Hector Santiago (9-4, 4.28 ERA). The left-hander moved to a perfect 5-0 this month after beating Kansas City on Monday. Santiago allowed just two runs on five hits and four walks in 5.1 innings of action in that comprehensive 6-2 win over the Royals. Key to Santiaago’s five-game winning streak is his excellent command. After allowing 17 long balls in his first 16 starts, Santiago has given up just two homers in this stretch. The 28-year-old has an impressive 2.40 ERA in his last eight starts.
Writer’s Prediction
Boston wins, 3-2.
