New York Mets vs. Detroit Tigers (7:10 PM ET)
Line: New York Mets (+113) at Detroit Tigers (-123); total: 7.5 – view all MLB lines
Noah Syndergaard (9-5, 2.48 ERA) has allowed three runs in each of his last two starts, which both resulted to a loss for the Mets. Needless to say, he’s looking to end his recent slumps with a road win against a team that he has never faced before—the Tigers. Syndergaard is 4-2 with a 2.59 ERA on the road this season. The Tigers, meanwhile, is hoping that an extra resting day for Justin Verlander (11-6, 3.54 ERA) can provide him more energy to put on another excellent outing. He’s yielded no more than two runs in each of his last six starts and has piled up a total of 48 strikeouts during that stretch. Verlander, however, is only 1-1 with a 6.00 ERA in two career starts versus the Mets.
Writer’s Prediction
Mets (+113) win, 6-3.
Boston Red Sox vs. Los Angeles Dodgers (10:10 PM ET)
Line: Boston Red Sox (+105) at Los Angeles Dodgers (-115); total: 8.0 – view all MLB lines
Steven Wright (12-5, 3.20 ERA) had a relatively valiant effort during his last time out, allowing 10 hits but just three runs in a win over the Angels. Based on his road record (5-4, 2.37 ERA) this season, he’s in line for a strong performance tonight versus the Dodgers. However, Wright has never pitched at Dodger Stadium before, so it’ll be intriguing to see what kind of output the Red Sox will get from the knuckleballer.
As for the Dodgers, you can expect a bounce-back effort from Scott Kazmir (9-4, 4.41 ERA), who’s fresh off his first setback after three months against Arizona last weekend. Prior to that loss though, the former Astros starter has been superb, surrendering just three or fewer runs in each of his previous four appearances. And that stretch includes a shutout performance versus the Rockies on July 2. Kazmir is 9-9 with a 3.99 ERA in his career against Boston.
Writer’s Prediction
Boston (+105) win it, 7-3.
