Boston Red Sox vs. Baltimore Orioles (7:05 PM ET)
Line: Boston Red Sox at Baltimore Orioles – view all MLB lines
After losing the first of a four-game series to the Red Sox this Monday, 5-2, the Orioles desperately need to get back on track with a victory to keep pace with their division rivals in the standings. They have a good shot at doing so this Tuesday night with Kevin Gausman (8-10, 3.43 ERA) on the mound. Just last Wednesday, Gausman held the Red Sox scoreless to propel his team to victory, 1-0. He also has a superb 2.06 ERA since the start of August.
However, there’s no stopping the Red Sox just yet from making a huge late-season run for the AL East title. They’re in the midst of a five-game winning streak and now have a rather comfortable four-game lead over the division. Breakout sensation Mookie Betts, who’s hitting .314/.356/.541 for the season, appears to be in line for the AL MVP award in just his second year in the majors. His two-run blast from Monday’s win coupled with an on-going five-game hitting streak is a fine example of his importance to Boston’s potent offense, which has put up no less than five runs in each of the contests during their sizzling run.
Writer’s Prediction
The Red Sox extend their winning streak to six games after beating the O’s, 6-4.
San Francisco Giants vs. Los Angeles Dodgers (10:10 PM ET)
Line: San Francisco Giants at Los Angeles Dodgers – view all MLB lines
Expect another superb pitching duel between San Francisco’s Johnny Cueto (16-5, 2.86 ERA) and Los Angeles’ Rich Hill (12-4, 2.06 ERA) to go down this evening. The last time that these two aces faced off on August 24, Hill picked up the win for the Dodgers by pitching six shutout innings for the 1-0 victory.
There’s a strong possibility that we’re about to get the same result from this Tuesday night, as the Giants are still struggling to put up runs in the clutch. Monday’s 2-1 loss was the ninth time this season that they’ve lost a game after leading through the first eight innings.
Furthermore, San Francisco has yet to find a solid replacement for their former and erratic designated closer, Santiago Casilla. This leaves Cueto with the tough task of having to shut down Dodgers hitters possibly for the entire nine innings.
Writer’s Prediction
The Dodgers increase their NL West lead to a commanding seven games with a 4-1 victory.
