[sc:MLB240banner ]Short and awful. These words perfectly describe Joe Ross’ (3-4, 3.44 ERA) most recent outing. He was dealt a 5-0 loss on Tuesday versus the Dodgers, allowing a season-high five earned runs and six hits in 4 2/3 innings—his shortest of the year. But prior to this game, Ross was the total opposite as he logged in six solid frames of one-run ball for the eventual 8-3 triumph over the Diamondbacks on August 6. Ross carries a 1-2 record and a 4.32 across four road starts this season.
As for the Giants, they’ll be countering with Madison Bumgarner (13-6, 3.15 ERA), who notched his 13th win during his last time out. He limited the Astros to a single run after nine innings to help his team earn the much-needed 3-1 victory. Bumgarner is 2-4 with a 3.42 ERA in eight career starts opposite Washington.
The Nationals are 1-4 in Ross’ last five turns. The Giants, meanwhile, have won five of their last seven games with Bumgarner starting.

Giants (-115) win, 4-3.
Los Angeles Angels vs. Kansas City Royals (8:10 PM ET)
Line: Los Angeles Angels (+130) vs. Kansas City Royals (-140); total: 8.0– view all MLB lines
The struggle has been real for Hector Santiago, who is 7-6 with a 2.87 ERA on the year. He’s been nothing but terrible in the last four contests, yielding 14 earned runs and 23 hits in 16 1/3 innings. Los Angeles was 1-3 during that stretch. But a big performance from Santiago can be expected later tonight, as he boasts a 1.53 ERA and 0.96 WHIP against Kansas City throughout his career.
The Royals, meanwhile, will be handing the ball to Yordan Ventura (7-7, 4.97 ERA) tonight. Ventura is coming off a strong 6-1 triumph over the Tigers on August 11, during which he delivered a season-high of eight K’s in six shutout innings despite giving up a career-high of six walks. The 24-year-old righty is 5-4 with a 4.47 ERA across nine home starts this year.
Los Angeles is 4-3 in Santiago’s last seven starts. Kansas City, on the other hand, is 2-3 in Ventura’s previous five turns at Kauffman Stadium.
Writer’s Prediction
The Royals (-140) emerge victorious, 7-2, to extend their winning streak to three.
