Betting on the Buffalo Bulls (7-5 Overall / 5-3 Conference)
The Bulls added another victory to end the regular season with a comprehensive 49-7 win at home over the Bowling Green Falcons last week. The winning formula for Buffalo was simple, as the Bulls ran circles around the hapless defense of the Falcons, finishing the game with 455 rushing yards and seven touchdowns. Buffalo relies heavily on its rushing attack. The Bulls are 20th in the nation with 61.09 rushing play percentage and that high activity on the ground is being converted to 201.2 rushing yards per game — the 31st best in the FBS. The tandem of running backs Jaret Patterson and Kevin Marks is the core of the Bulls’ rushing game. Patterson has rushed for 1,626 yards and 17 touchdowns this year, while MArks has 1,008 rushing yards and eight rushing scores on the season. It’s not all about rushing for the Bulls, though, as they can also defend. In fact, they are eighth nationally with 298.2 yards surrendered per contest.
The over is 7-3 in the Bulls’ last 10 games.
Betting on the Charlotte 49ers (7-5 Overall / 5-3 Conference)
The 49ers just finished fourth in the Conference USA, but they are a team that is peaking. After four losses in a row that stretched from September to October, the 49ers have been unbeaten in five games since Oct. 26, when they beat the North Texas Green at home, 39-38. In their latest outing, the 49ers took down the Old Dominion Monarchs on the road, 38-22, last Saturday. Charlotte mirrors the Bulls in a way, as the 49ers are also a team bent on running the ball as much as it can. The 49ers are 20th in the nation with a 61.09 rushing play percentage and 31st with 201.2 rushing yards per contest. Running back Benny LeMay is the biggest reason for the 49ers’ success on the ground, as he leads the team with 1,027 rushing yards to go with nine touchdowns. Quarterback Chris Reynolds is the Robin to LeMay’s Batman in the rushing attack, as he has 757 rushing yards and six touchdowns on the ground. The 49ers are also having success on offense because of their excellent offensive line that has allowed just 16.0 sacks on the season — second-fewest in the conference.
The 49ers are 4-1 against the spread (ATS) in their last five games.
Writer’s Prediction
The Bills win, 37-27.
