Betting on the Chicago White Sox (17-18)
Following a stretch where they lost nine out of 11 games, the White Sox are now winners of back-to-back. They dominated the San Diego Padres on Sunday, 9-3, as Leury Garcia and Yolmer Sanchez combined for five hits, three runs, and three RBIs.
Though unheralded by most, Garcia and Sanchez have been quite serviceable this season. Their slash lines all contain career-highs, and they join team star Avisail Garcia as the only batters in the club to currently hit above the .300 mark. The two may cool-off at some point, but for now, let’s just expect them to put up several more fantasy-friendly lines.
In any case, the offense will simply have to deliver, because the next starting pitcher in line, 12-year veteran Mike Polfrey (0-3, 5.21 ERA), doesn’t look like he’ll be able to do much. He has allowed 13 runs (11 earned) on 20 hits and seven walks across 19 innings this season. The Angels’ batters, who have collectively gone 26-for-86 against him all-time (.302), are bound to provide another night of punishment.
Betting on the Los Angeles Angels (19-21)
The inconsistent Angels were on the winning side on Sunday, as they beat the Detroit Tigers, 4-1, despite only having five hits in 27 at-bats (.185).
Mike Trout had just one appearance on the plate, but being the two-time MVP that he is, he made the most out of the limited action, as he tallied his 11th homer of the season in his only at-bat of the day. Additionally, it was also his third straight game with a dinger. He has a slash line of .347/.441/.711 on the year.
The overall numbers aren’t there – the Angels are only on the bottom half of several batting stats – but Trout, Albert Pujols, and Yunel Escobar, among others, are all dangerous hitters at any given day. Escobar, who was given a rest on yesterday’s contest due to an undisclosed injury, could return to the field, he’s batting .319 in his last 16 games, with 22 hits, 10 runs, 11 RBIs, and four homers.
As for the pitching duties, Jesse Chavez is the probable starter for Monday. Like the White Sox, the Angels should also hope that the offense could provide enough damage, because Chavez isn’t threatening anyone with his production. He’s 2-5 with a 4.29 ERA in eight starts this season, and the White Sox’s batters are 13-for-31 against him all-time (.419).
