Cleveland Cavaliers vs Atlanta Hawks Predictions, Picks, Odds and Betting Preview – February 9 2018

Something is wrong in Cleveland, and the Atlanta Hawks cannot not wait to take advantage of the Cleveland Cavaliers struggles right now. They will get their chance this Friday at home, when they host LeBron James  and the defending Eastern Conference champions (who look nothing like defending Eastern Conference champions).

Whatever it is going on in Cleveland, the Cavaliers need to address their issues sooner than later. IT would not help them do that if they lose to another lottery-bound team like Atlanta. The Cavaliers, however, are 2-1 SU so far this season against Atlanta. The Cavs beat Atlanta on the road on Nov. 30 (121-114) and on Dec. 12 (123-114) at home. LeBron James has been great against most opponents, including the Hawks. The four-time MVP has averaged 25.0 points on an exceptional 70.7 field goal percentage. Atlanta does not have a sound defense, so the Hawks will always be deer in the headlights of the high-scoring Cavs that is fifth in the NBA with 109.2 points per game. Kevin Love, however, is not going to be present this Friday because of a hand injury. That means Channing Frye and Tristan Thompson will play more minutes this time than they did in the past meeting with the Hawks. Dwyane Wade is averaging 22.0 points against Atlanta this season.

Betting on the Atlanta Hawks (17-37)

A team made up of Atlanta Hawks players’ grandmothers could score 100 points against the Cavaliers these days. Cleveland’s defense has the same sturdiness of a wet paper bag, and the Hawks should be able to capitalize on that. The Hawks are scoring 103.7 points per game this season, but they have averaged 115.0 points in the three outings versus Cleveland. Atlanta won the first meeting with Cleveland on Nov. 5 away from home, 117-115, with the Hawks going 11-for-25 from downtown. Dennis Schroder led the team with 28 points. Schroder is averaging 23.0 points in the season series against the Cavs, while Taurean Prince has put up 17.7 points and 2.3 threes. Atlanta has covered the spread in the last two home games against Cleveland. The Hawks are also 5-0 ATS in the last five meetings with the Cavs overall.

Writer’s Prediction:

Cleveland wins, 112-108.
