Fantasy Football Expert Guide Pickups for Week 9 of the 2015 NFL Season

FantasyPros

Position Pick
Quarterback Landry Jones
Running Back James White
Wide Receiver Cole Beasley
Tight End Austin Seferian-Jenkins

[sc:NFL240banner ]Round and round goes the Pittsburgh Steelers’ QB carousel. With Ben Roethlisberger expected to miss more time yet again due to another injury (foot), third-stringer Landry Jones makes his way back to Nathaniel Reeves of FantasyPros’ list of waiver wire pickups, and likely every other experts’ waiver wire pickups lists at this point.

By no means will Jones put up numbers like Big Ben, but – as Reeves pointed out – the former Oklahoma Sooner will have plenty of weapons downfield in Antonio Brown and Martavis Bryant to help Jones ease into his starting role. Plus, DeAngelo Williams seems to be doing his end at filling-in for Le’Veon Bell as well, so he should be able take some pressure off the the young QB with solid gains through the ground game and make up for some expected rookie mistakes from Jones.

Scout

Position Pick 1 Pick 2
Quarterback Matt Cassel Landry Jones
Running Back Shaun Draughn Karlos Williams
Wide Receiver Cole Beasley Dorial Green-Beckham
Tight End Clive Walford Garrett Celek

Leave it to Scout’s Jimmy Dinsmore to cite probably the only two quality wide receiver options in free agency this week: Dallas’ Cole Beasley and Tennessee’s Dorial Green Beckham. Dinsmore praised Beasley for making the most out of the return of Dez Bryant by turning short/mid-range passes from Matt Cassel into a 119-yard, two-TD game in Week 9, while Bryant worked his way back as the Cowboys’ deep-ball threat.

Meanwhile, Beckham also benefited from the return of Marcus Mariota, who the Titans badly missed for the past few weeks. The rookie wideout snagged five of the team-high 10 targets headed his way for 77 yards in the overtime win against the Saints on Sunday. However, the imminent return of Kendall Wright to the lineup may put an abrupt end to DGB and Mariota’s budding rookie-to-rookie connection just as fast as it gained its buzz in Week 9.

Yahoo

Position Pick 1 Pick 2 Pick 3
Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick
Running Back Karlos Williams James Starks Brandon Bolden
Wide Receiver Dorial Green-Beckham
Tight End Richard Rodgers
D/ST Steelers

Buffalo Bills running back Karlos Williams was an early-season surprise before he got hurt, and fantasy owners who were patient enough to hold on to him until his return in Week 9 were rewarded very handsomely.

As Yahoo Sports’ Andy Behrens highlighted, Williams was already a touchdown machine before getting concussed, and he easily found himself back in the zone (twice!) in Week 9 to go with 119 rushing yards against the Dolphins. The fifth-round draftee now has six TDs in five games, and is primed to keep his production of this caliber for the weeks ahead, especially considering that LeSean McCoy is struggling to get healthy again with yet another injury.

Behrens also suggested to grab Green Bay’s James Starks if you haven’t done so yet. For several games now, Starks has been outplaying fantasy darling Eddie Lacy, who looks out of shape, demotivated, and now dealing with a groin injury. Plus, with Aaron Rodgers not at the top of his game for the past couple of games, the Packers may lean on the five-year Packer even more up until Rodgers finally regains his MVP form.
