Betting on Gennady Golovkin (-3000)

Golovkin is the big bad boy in this fight. He’ll be coming into this fight at least a little frustrated as he should be engaging in another brawl with Canelo Alvarez instead of a fringe contender like Martirosyan, but he can’t afford to lose this fight either as it would be a huge stain on his legacy. Golovkin has fists made of cement. He owns a 37-0-1 record with 33 of his wins coming by way of knockout. Only four of his opponents have ever heard the final bell so far in Golovkin’s career, and he has zero intentions of making Martirosyan the fifth one to see the end of the tunnel. Golovkin is definitely going to be the bigger fighter than Martirosyan come fight night, as he is the natural fighter in the agreed weight class (middleweight). Golovkin has went the full 12 rounds in his last two fights, but up against a fighter who has not fought since 2016 in Martirosyan, it’s fair to expect a GGG KO this Saturday.

Betting on Vanes Martirosyan (+1400)

Martirosyan was a many-time Golden Gloves champion during his amateur days, but his pro career hasn’t been as glittery. He has yet to win a world title, though, he has fought in title fights. He first got a title shot in 2013 when he lost to Demetrius Andrade via split decision in a fight for the then vacant WBO super welterweight belt. Three years later, Martirosyan would fight Erislandy Lara for the IBO super welterweight title and the WBA world Super welterweight title. Martirosyan lost that too, this time via unanimous decision. That was Martirosyan’s last fight, so he might have some issues with rust, though, at least he’s not worrying about a damaged body. Martirosyan is an inch taller than GGG, as he stands 5’10” and has the same reach (70”) as Golovkin. Martirosyan has 36 wins (21 by knockouts) with three losses and a draw. His chin is going to be put to the ultimate test by Golovkin, but it should also be noted that Martirosyan has never been knocked out in his pro career.

Writer’s Prediction

GGG finishes Martirosyan in the sixth round via knockout.
