Betting on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 4-2 (+14)
Tech lost by just a point to Miami and thus they cannot afford a misstep if they want to make to the ACC title game. This is an underrated tea. Their two losses are by a combined 2 points. Nothing new on offense for the Yellow Jackets, they are second in rushing. Taquon Marshall has taken the QB spot and ran with it literally. Tech is not going to get cute either. They will come right at you with the run.
Quarterback TaQuon Marshall leads Georgia Tech in passing with 456 yards and five touchdowns and in rushing with 704 yards and 11 scores. Sophomore running back KirVonte Benson is averaging nearly six yards per carry and has rushed for 652 yards in six games so far this season.
Their defense is good too. They are in the Top 40 in the major stat categories and only giving up 20ppg. Clemson is not super dynamic this year either.
Betting on the Clemson Tigers 6-1 (-14)
There is still a month to go in the season but the Tigers are going to be kicking themselves if a slip up at Syracuse prevents them from really defending their title. The reality is that even though their defense has been superb they have been playing with fire offensively with Kelly Bryant at QB. He has just not been efficient despite his physical gifts.
The defense can be superlative though, especially up front. Last year they were really good at corralling the Georgia Tech option attack too. On the season, Bryant–a junior out of Calhoun Falls, S.C.–has completed 67.6 percent of his passes for 1,375 yards with four touchdowns and four interceptions.
Of great concern for the Tigers, of course, is that Bryant has been sacked 15 times. He has also rushed for 393 yards and seven scores on 101 keepers. Kelly’s status must be monitored, but Clemson may be in good shape with or without him. The Tigers have dominated this head-to-head series of late and they are coming off a much-needed bye week.
Writer’s Prediction
The Tigers are 5-1 ATS in their last six against winning opponents, 5-2 ATS in their last seven at home against opponents with winning road records, and 6-2 ATS in their last eight on grass. Expect those trends to continue. Pick: Clemson (-14)
