Betting on the Green Bay Packers (+2.5)
Green Bay tumbled down to 4-5 on the season after losing its third-straight game against the Titans on Sunday afternoon, 47-25.
Yes, the defense gave away 47 points in that game with 21 of which coming in the opening quarter. The Packers tried to make it interesting, though, managing to hang around in the succeeding two quarters. But Aaron Rodgers, who went 31 of 51 for 371 yards with two touchdowns and two picks, couldn’t mount a late comeback in the final period.
The loss also marked the fourth time in five games that the Packers allowed 30 points or more despite scoring almost just as much in the same stretch. Their defense is in for another grueling test when the Redskins welcome them into FedEx Field this weekend.
Washington can kill them on both sides of the field. It ranks among the highest overall in offensive yards (407.8 per game) and in sacks (25.0). Expect Green Bay to lose here if the defense doesn’t improve.
The Packers are 1-3 SU and ATS on the road this season.
Betting on the Washington Redskins (-2.5)
A combination of good defense and efficient offense allowed the Redskins to secure a hard-fought win over the Vikings on Sunday, 26-20.
Preston Smith issued two of Washington’s three sacks and a game-changing one-handed interception in the latter part of the final period. Meanwhile, quarterback Kirk Cousins did his part on the other side of the football, delivering an error-free performance with 262 passing yard and two scores. He also set up Dustin Hopkins for four field goals, which made up all of the team’s points in the second half.
The win improved the Burgundy and Gold’s record to 5-3-1, which is good for third in the NFC East. They’re still pretty far from catching up to the division-leading Cowboys, but the way that the Redskins have played this season puts them in serious consideration for the postseason, or at least in the Wild Card race.
Up next for them is a matchup with the reeling Packers, who allowed Marcus Mariota to complete four touchdown passes during Sunday’s loss to the Titans. Cousins should experience the same fate if Green Bay’s supposedly-feared defense continues to give away points.
Washington is 3-2 SU and ATS at home this season.
