Betting on Hamilton Tiger-Cats (1-0)
The Tiger-Cats opened their 2019 CFL campaign with a nice home win over the Saskatchewan Roughriders in Week 1, 23-17. Coming off a breakout 2018 season, quarterback Jeremiah Masoli looked solid in his debut this year, throwing for 169 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions on 17-of-29 completions. The Tiger-Cats got a break early on when Roughriders quarterback Zach Collaros was taken out of the game in the first period due to an illegal hit on him by a Hamilton defender. Still, Hamilton did not impress much, particularly on the ground, as the Tiger-Cats weren’t able to contain running back William Powell, who had 104 rushing yards and a touchdown on 20 carries. Perhaps Hamilton will still have not much trouble defensively against Toronto, which finished the 2018 season second worst in the CFL in scoring offense with just 17.8 points per game.
The over is 5-0 in Hamilton’s last five road games.
Betting on Toronto Argonauts (0-0)
The Argonauts are just about to wake up. They had a Week 1 bye, and will make their 2019 debut at home, hoping to move a step further away from a forgettable 2018 season in which they finished with just a 4-14 record. As mentioned earlier, Toronto had an salty offense last year, but there could be an entirely different story this time around after the team acquired three skill position players the Argonauts believe would revitalize their attack. Wide receiver Derel Walker and a pair of running backs in Tyrell Sutton and Chris Rainey are all looking to contribute right away. As for the quarterback, they are likely going to start James Franklin again for this season. Franklin did not impress much in 2018, passing for 2,034 yards with eight touchdowns and nine interceptions, but the upgrade done to his receiving unit could also elevate his numbers and overall performance.
The Argonauts are 3-3 against the spread (ATS) in their last six home games.
Writer’s Prediction
The Argos start the season off right with a 35-23 win over the Tiger Cats.
