Betting on the Kansas City Chiefs (odds)

Regular Season Record: 1-0

The Chiefs edged the San Francisco 49ers in Week 1 of the NFL preseason, 19-16, and that’s with Patrick Mahomes having just a cup of coffee on the field. Mahomes played in just one series and ended up with four passing yards on 1-of-2 completions. It was Anthony Gourdon who had the bulk of the quarterbacking duties instead for Kansas City. Gourdon recorded 79 passing yards on 11-of-17 completions, while Chad Henne went 6 of 9 for 37 passing yards and a touchdown. There was really not much to write home about Kansas City offensively in that game. On defense, however, the Chiefs’ pass rush got the job done with five sacks that led to 39 lost yards for San Francisco. Pro Bowler Chris Jones had one of those sacks when he blew out Trey Lance with a nasty hit in the pocket. The Chiefs’ defense should be excited to line up against Arizona’s pass protection that allowed four sacks in Week 1 of the preseason.

The Chiefs are 5-0-1 against the spread in their last six road games in the preseason.

Betting on the Arizona Cardinals (odds)

Regular Season Record: 1-0

DeAndre Hopkins, A.J. Green, and Kyler Murray all didn’t see action on the field in Week 1 of the NFL preseason, but the Cardinals still managed to defeat the Dallas Cowboys, 19-16 in Glendale.  Quarterback Chris Streveler covered a lot of ground through the air and ground, as he led the team with 107 passing yards (12/24, 0 TDs, 0 INTs) and 55 rushing yards on 10 carries. It was a whole lot of running for the Cards, as they finished the game with 168 rushing yards and a touchdown on 31 rushing attempts. There might be a ton of chances for Arizona’s ground attack to exploit holes on Kansas City’s defense in Week 2 after the Chiefs allowed the Niners to rack up 175 rushing yards. Defensively, 2021 first-round pick linebacker Zaven Collins impressed right away with two tackles, including the one he put on Cowboys running back Tony Pollard early in the game to help set the tone for Arizona’s defense. He’ll be a tremendous asset against the Chiefs.

The under is 3-0 in the Cardinals’ last three preseason games.
