Betting on the Lorenzo Sonego (+450)

Sonego has been tattered with losses over his past few outings. He has not won at match since the Monte-Carlo Masters in which he reached the quarterfinals of the tournament, with a notable win over Karen Khachanov in the second round. In three singles tournament that followed, Sonego had himself booted out by his opponents in the first round. Nevertheless, he’s made those opponents sweat a lot before dispatching him of, as Sonego took them all into deciding sets. If anything, those performances tell that Sonego isn’t someone who’ll just be content in whipping out a  camera to have a selfie with a legend like Federer in the first round of the French Open. He’ll make Federer work, too, as much as he can. He went 3-3 on clay matches in 2018 and is currently 11-12 on the surface, so far this year.

Betting on the Roger Federer (-700)

For the first time since 2015, the greatest tennis player of all time will make his appearance at Roland Garros. Everyone knows what Federer can do on the tennis court, but one point of concern for the legend is his health. He took himself out of the Rome Masters due to a leg injury, and while he’s said that he’s fully recovered from it, it’s probably because there’s no reason for him to say otherwise. Federer is 37, and while he’s in a ripe age where most other players would have retired already, he’s got two titles this year to prove that he’s still got it. He won in Dubai and Miami back in March. Federer only has one title at Roland Garros, the only Grand Slam event where he only has won one championship. In 2015, he got eliminated in the quarterfinals. Over his last 11 appearances at the French Open, Federer has not made it to the semifinals just four times.

Writer’s Prediction
