Betting on the Los Angeles Dodgers (9-10)

Moneyline: -143

With the 6-2 win on Sunday, the Los Angeles Dodgers prevented getting swept by the Arizona Diamondbacks in their three-game series.

The Diamondbacks, who scored a total of 24 runs against the Dodgers in the two meetings prior to Sunday’s contest, finally cooled off as the Dodgers’ Brandon McCarthy pitched seven solid innings of two-run ball.

Los Angeles will now turn to Hyun-Jin Ryu (0-3, 5.87 ERA) for the four-game series opener against the Giants. The 30-year-old lefty is certainly looking out-of-sync this season, having allowed a total of six home runs already and at least six hits in each of his three starts.

Ryu would love to have his fellow teammates provide him with decent run support as he gets his act together. Luckily, the Dodgers’ bats are slowly coming to life. Corey Seager hit a double and drove in a run on Sunday, which gives him seven hits and five RBIs over the last five games. And while Adrian Gonzalez has yet to go deep this season, he knocked in a pair of doubles and had a couple of RBIs as well in Sunday’s victory.

Now would be the best time for the team to improve its record away from LA, which currently stands at 3-6. Four of those road losses saw the Dodgers score two or fewer runs, but they could very well get the better of their heated yet underperforming division rivals in the Giants ahead.

Betting on the San Francisco Giants (6-13)

Moneyline: +133

Unlike the Dodgers, the San Francisco Giants couldn’t prevent being swept by the Colorado Rockies in their own three-game series.

The Giants were shutout on Sunday, 8-0, as the Rockies dealt a vicious pounding by outscoring the visiting team a whopping 20-3 over the final two contests. Even worse, San Francisco now has a four-game losing streak and the worst record in the NL West.

A return to the Bay Area might just get the Giants back on the right track. Although they’re just 3-4 at AT&T Park this season, they’ve scored an average of six runs in those three victories. Furthermore, they have a five-game home win streak against the Dodgers and also took eight of their 10 head-to-head meetings at AT&T Park last season.

Matt Cain (1-0, 3.31 ERA) will look to keep his relatively solid campaign going, having allowed just one run in each of his last two starts. Cain last faced the Dodgers in April 8 of last year and gave up just two runs in six innings of work then.

The Giants should also be able to find their stroke against LA’s Ryu on Monday, as they’re hitting a collective .337 against the Korean. Hunter Pence, in particular, should provide the spark on offense. Pence has gone .455 in 22 at-bats against Ryu to go with seven runs batted in.

Writer’s Prediction

The Giants (+133) snap their skid with a much-needed 4-2 victory.
