Pitching Edge – Washington Nationals (-200)
The Nats clearly have the edge on the mound here. They do, after all, have the best starting rotation in the majors this season. Playing a big part in that success has been the sensational pitching of undefeated Stephen Strasburg (13-0, 2.51 ERA), who’s set to take the hill in today’s series finale with the Dodgers.Strasburg sustained his fine form in a win over the Pirates last Friday. The right-handed ace logged in eight innings of one-run ball during that outing. He should be able to keep it going later versus the Blue Crew—a team which he’s fared extremely well against. Strasburg is 1-0 with a 1.71 ERA throughout four career starts in that matchup.
The Nats are priced at +400 to win the National League pennant this year.
Batting Edge – Washington Nationals (-200)
Aside from having such a terrific starting rotation, what makes the Nats even more dangerous are their big bats. They are racking up almost five runs per game this season—4.66 to be exact—which is among the highest in the MLB.
The pairing of Daniel Murphy and Wilson Ramos can certainly attest to this, as both of them have been Washington’s most reliable batters this season. The two have combined for 215, hits, 117 runs batted in and 31 homers. Murphy, specifically, has arguably been better as he leads the team in the aforementioned departments and in batting average (.351). He also holds a career triple-slash line of .305/.345/.435 versus the Dodgers.
Writer’s Prediction: Washington (-200) wins it, 5-2.
