Betting on the Miami Heat (odds)
Regular Season Record: 27-25
The Heat recovered from a 124-112 home loss to the Memphis Grizzlies last Tuesday by taking down the Los Angeles Lakers, also at home, last Thursday to the tune of a 110-104 score. Jimmy Butler came up big for the reigning Eastern Conference champions, as he scored 28 points on 8-11 shooting. Victor Oladipo chipped in 18 points, though, he won’t have a chance to follow up with another solid performance this Sunday, as he’s not traveling with the Heat due to a knee injury. The good thing for the Heat is that they still have Goran Dragic, Tyler Herro, and Kendrick Nunn to cover for what Miami would be missing from Oladipo’s production. Herro and Nunn had 29 and 22 points, respectively, last March against Portland, albeit in a game that resulted in a 125-122 home loss for the Heat. Miami will look to play better defense this time around against the Blazers.
The Heat, who are fourth in the league with just 107.4 points allowed per game, are 4-2 against the spread in their last six contests.
Betting on the Portland Trail Blazers (odds)
Regular Season Record: 30-21
The Blazers fell prey to top title contenders in their last two games. After losing to the LA Clippers (133-116), the Blazers suffered another loss at the hands of the Utah Jazz (122-103), with both games in Portland. The Blazers will look to bounce back when they host the lowly Detroit Pistons this Saturday before turning their attention on the Heat. In Portland’s March win over the Heat, CJ McCollum exploded for 35 points on 14-25 shooting from the field. Damian Lillard had 22 points but it went just 6 of 19 from the floor. The Blazers will have a better frontcourt this time against Miami to combat Bam Adebayo, as Jusuf Nurkic is back to provide some much-needed interior defense for Portland, which had to rely mostly on Enes Kanter to contain the Miami big man in the first meeting. Nurkic had 10 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, a steal, and a block in 22 minutes against Utah.
The Blazers are 7-3 against the spread in their last 10 games against Miami.
Writer’s Prediction
The Heat wins, 119-116.
