Betting on the Miami Marlins (10-8)
Giancarlo Stanton carries a hot bat into this game. He’s 9-for-17 with four home runs, seven RBIs and five scored runs, including a 3-for-5 effort in Sunday’s 7-3 win at San Diego—the second-straight victory for Miami.
The Marlins have put together a total of 13 runs scored in their brief two-game run, and they’re bound to extend that stretch to three games with Wei-Yin Chen (2-0, 3.94 ERA) on the mound. He’s coming off his best start ever with the team, throwing for seven shutout runs in Seattle last week.
Do note that Chen gave up four runs on 11 hits in two out of three starts against Philadelphia last season. He went 0-2 with a 5.51 ERA in that span.
Betting on the Philadelphia Phillies (9-9)
The Phillies have put together four-straight victories, including a sweep of the Braves. Both the pitching and offense has improved, as Philadelphia’s scored no less than four runs in its current winning streak.
Now it’s Vince Velasquez’s (0-2, 7.20 ERA) turn on the mound again, which isn’t encouraging news for the team. He’s allowed a total of 12 earned runs in three starts this season. But Velasquez did save himself from a third-consecutive loss in his last start. He brings in a 1-0 mark and 2.50 ERA in three career starts against Miami.
Meanwhile, Cesar Hernandez is on a mini three-game hitting streak. He’s 7-for-13 with one double, one homer and a pair of runs-batted-in during that run. He’s also hitting .417 lifetime versus the aforementioned Chen.
Writer’s Prediction
