Betting on the Michigan State Spartans (3-1)
The Spartans beat Iowa 17-10 after suffering their first loss of the season two weeks ago against Notre Dame. They drove their first possession for 75 yards to a TD, and bumped their lead to 14-0 towards the tail end of the first quarter, grasping the lead from there on in, along with the cover as four-point favorites. Adding the victory over the Hawkeyes to the mix, with a 300-226 yard comparison, the Spartans have now outgained all four of their opponents this season, outrushing three of four of them in the process. In addition, they are 3-1 ATS.
Betting on the Michigan Wolverines (4-0)
The Wolverines are enjoying an undefeated record thus far, with a recent 28-10 victory over Purdue two weeks ago. While they trailed the Boilermakers 10-7 deep into the third quarter, Michigan scored the final 21 points to not only win, but cover as 13-point chalk too. The outgained Purdue 423-189 in the process. Confidence was bolstered by the performance of backup quarterback John O’Korn who threw 18 of 26 for 270 yards and a TD. Running back Chris Evans ran 14 times for 97 yards and two TDs. Through it all, the Wolverine’s defense held Purdue to just 30 rushing yards and a dismal 0-for-12 performance on third-down conversions, all the while recording five sacks. This season to date, the Wolverines have outgained and outrushed each of their four opponents.
Will the momentum take a hit after enjoying a week off last week?
Writer’s Prediction
Michigan State will be lucky to score 14 points against this intense Michigan defense. Wolverine’s O’Korn looked more than competent in relief against Purdue, so Michigan should be just fine at that position. The smart money here bets the Michigan Wolverines on the NCAAF point spread.
