Betting on the Michigan State Spartans (+2)

Record: 2-0 Overall / 0-0 Conference

After beating the Western Michigan Broncos, 35-13, and the Akron Zips, 52-0, both in East Lansing in Weeks 1 and 2, respectively, the Spartans will hit the road for the first time this season. Against Akron, the Spartans overcame an underwhelming performance from quarterback Payton Thorne, who only had 212 passing yards and a couple of interceptions on 18/28 completions. The Spartans relied on their stout run game, producing 260 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns, with Jalen Berger going off for 107 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 17 carries. He will have a target on his back in Week 3, but Washington will have its hands full trying to slow him down.

Michigan State is 4-0 against the spread in their last 4 games overall. The Spartans are also 4-0-2 against the spread in their last six September games.

Betting on the Washington Huskies (-2)

Record: 2-0 Overall / 0-0 Conference

Washington is also undefeated through two games. The Huskies beat the Kent State Golden Flashes in Week 1 at home, 45-20, then smothered the Portland State Vikings in another home game in Week 2, 52-6. The Huskies were simply too powerful for those lowly teams scheduled by Washington to merely buff its early-season mojo and, of course, win-loss record. Nevertheless, the Huskies will come into the big game against Michigan State full of confidence, especially with quarterback Michael Penix Jr. The former Indiana Hoosiers quarterback now has 682 passing yards and two touchdowns with an interception and a 74.1 percent completion rate in two games with Washington since transferring from Bloomington.

Washington is 7-2 against the spread in its last nine games versus teams outside of the Pac-12. The Over is 4-0 in the Huskies’ last four games as the home team.

Writer’s Prediction

Michigan State wins, 27-26.
