Betting on the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders (+9)

Record: 6-6 Overall / 4-4 Conference

Middle Tennessee is headed to the Bahamas coming off a 27-17 win over the Florida Atlantic Owls. Defense got the job done for the Blue Raiders in that game, as they forced the Owls to commit two turnovers and held Florida Atlantic to just 6/19 on third downs. Middle Tennessee also limited the Owls to just 2.9 yards per carry. That kind of defense is what Middle Tennessee is hoping to show up at the Bahamas Bowl, and there’s a good reason for the Blue Raiders to feel good about that happening. After all, they average the most takeaways per game in the FBS with 2.4 prior to Week 14.

Middle Tennessee is 4-1 against the spread in its last five Friday games.

Betting on the Toledo Rockets (-9)

Record: 7-5 Overall / 5-3 Conference

Toledo is coming to the Bahamas Bowl riding a three-game win streak. During that stretch, the Rockets defeated the Bowling Green Falcons, Ohio Bobcats, and the Akron Zips. They averaged a whopping 44.3 points in those contests. Just to show how good this team is, Toledo kept in step with the then-no.8 Notre Dame Fighting Irish in a 32-29 loss in South Bend back in September. Toledo has a balanced offense and defense, which is ranked 27th and 30th in the nation, respectively, prior to Week 14. The Rockets don’t turn the ball over a lot, thanks to their accurate passing game that is tops in the nation in interception rate.

Toledo is 4-1 against the spread in its last 5 games overall.

Writer’s Prediction

Toledo wins, 33-23.
