Milos Raonic has a habit of starting out slow in his matches before eventually stepping on the gas. But he might have to turn up the heat from the get-go this time around against a very dangerous opponent in the form of David Goffin, whom the Canadian has defeated in two of their three career meetings.
The latest one happened at this year’s Indian Wells Masters, wherein Raonic overpowered the 11th-seeded Belgian after three sets (6-3, 3-6, 6-3). To be more precise, the World No. 7 was very solid in that match, winning 82 percent of his first serve points and converting on all of his break point opportunities (3-for-3).
David Goffin’s aggressiveness is going to be huge in beating Milos Raonic. The 25-year-old Belgian has won almost 70 percent of his points when attacking towards the net and has capitalized on half of his break point opportunities (19-of-38) in the first three rounds of Wimbledon 2016.
More importantly, the World No. 11 has also managed to keep his mistakes at an acceptable level. He’s only averaging 15.6 unforced errors during that same stretch.
Overall, if the Goffin continues to nail his serves, limit his miscues and play with a lot of grit from start to finish, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him pull off the upset over the favored Raonic.
