Betting on the Milwaukee Brewers (odds)
Regular Season Record: 42-33
The Brewers are still on top of the National League Central division, but they are far from comfortable. They will look to create some wiggle room between them and the Louisville Cardinals when they give the ball to ace Brandon Woodruff, who has a 5-3 record this season to go with a 4.74 ERA and 1.24 WHIP. Woodruff has not allowed more than 2 earned runs in each of his last three starts. Milwaukee is also 3-2 in his last five starts overall. The Brewers are slashing just .234/.313/.404 this season. Putting balls into play and getting on base aren’t just their strengths this season, but they got serious power as they are in the top five in the majors in home runs (99). Willy Adames leads the team with 15 home runs, while Rowdy Tellez is batting .248 with 3 homers and 45 RBIs.
Betting on the Tampa Bay Rays (odds)
Regular Season Record: 40-32
The Rays could be sending Shane Baz to the mound for Game 1 of this series. Baz has yet to record a win in three starts this season, but since allowing 5 earned runs in just 2.1 innings in his season debut, he has been brilliant on the mound. Baz has given up just an earned run on 6 hits in 10.2 innings over his last two starts. He has also K’d 6 hitters in that span. In his most recent start, Baz tamed the big bats of the New York Yankees, as he let just an earned run in 4.2 innings, but the Rays’ bullpen couldn’t finish the job in a 5-4 loss at home. Speaking of hitters, the Rays’ offense can take advantage of Woodruff’s seemingly weakness when he’s on the road. Woodruff is just 1-3 with an 8.14 ERA in five starts away from Milwaukee.
Writer’s Prediction
The Rays win, 3-2.
