End your tiring week with a few bets on baseball. Below are five games that are the best baseball games to bet on today.
With the Kansas City Royals on a scorching run, the Detroit Tigers’ lead at the top of the American League Central has now slimmed down to just 2.5 games. The Tigers don’t need to push the panic button, but a win tonight against the Toronto Blue Jays would help keep the stubborn Royals at bay. As for the Royals, they’ll welcome the San Francisco Giants for the first game of their three-game interleague set.
In another matchup, the Washington Nationals and the Atlanta Braves begin a series between the top two teams in the National League East. You can read a full preview of that games here.

St. Louis Cardinals vs. Baltimore Orioles (7:05 PM ET)
Line: St. Louis Cardinals (+126) at Baltimore Orioles (-136); total: 8.5 – see all MLB lines
[sc:MLB240banner ]Justin Masterson (1-0, 7.50 ERA) gave up five earned runs on seven hits , but got some timely assists from his offense in the Cards’ 9-7 win over Milwaukee on August 2. The Cards, though, haven’t scored that much in any of their next four games, all of which have gone under the total. It was a different story for the Orioles’ Tillman (8-5, 3.78 ERA), who recently pitched seven scoreless innings in Baltimore’s 1-0 win against Seattle on August 3. The Orioles are 4-1 in his last five home starts.
Writer’s prediction: The Orioles cruise past St. Louis.
Detroit Tigers vs. Toronto Blue Jays (7:07 PM ET)
Line: Detroit Tigers (-122) at Toronto Blue Jays (+112); total: 8.5 – see all MLB lines
Detroit went 1-3 in a recent trip to the Bronx, with their dry offense scoring just one run in last two games. The Tigers will look to recover their brilliance at the plate when they head to the Rogers Centre, where they are 3-0 in their last three visits. However, they’ll have to do it against the Blue Jays’ R.A. Dickey (9-11, 4.03 ERA). Since 2003, Dickey’s teams (Blue Jays, Mets, Mariners, Rangers) are 9-1 combined in the last 10 starts of the knuckleballer against Detroit.
Writer’s prediction: Detroit snaps skid, beats Blue Jays.
Washington Nationals vs. Atlanta Braves (7:35 PM ET)
Line: Washington Nationals (-120) at Atlanta Braves (+110); total: 6.5 – see all MLB lines
Ervin Santana (10-6, 3.59 ERA) and the Braves have been playing sweet music over the last few starts of the Dominican right-hander. Atlanta is 4-0 in Santana’s last four home starts and 3-1 in the last four overall. Santana will face the hard-hitting Nationals, who’ll have Stephen Strasburg on the mound. The Nats have won their last two meetings with Atlanta.
Writer’s prediction: Atlanta outlasts the Nationals.

Los Angeles Angels Dodgers vs. Milwaukee Brewers (8:10 PM ET)
Line: Los Angeles Dodgers at Milwaukee Brewers – see all MLB lines
Roberto Hernandez (6-8, 3.87 ERA) debuts tonight for the Dodgers, who are on a three-game winning streak. Hernandez, who began the season with the Phillies, picked up a win in his last two starts before being traded to the NL West leaders. He’ll step on the mound tonight against NL Central pacesetter, Milwaukee. The Brewers will have Kyle Lohse (11-6, 3.40) to square off against the Dodgers’ lineup. The Brewers have won six of Lohse’s last 10 home starts.
Writer’s prediction: Lohse and the Brewers spoil Hernandez’ debut as a Dodger with a win.
San Francisco Giants vs. Kansas City Royals (10:05 PM ET)
Line: San Francisco Giants (-122) at Kansas City Royals (+112); total: 7.5 – see all MLB lines
Detroit’s recent struggles are exciting the Royals, who are now only 2.5 games behind of the AL Central leader. It also helped Kansas City that it is now 4-0 in its last four games, and 12-3 in the last 15. Up next for the Royals is a game against the visiting Giants, fronted by pitcher Madison Bumgarner (13-8, 3.21 ERA). The Giants are 8-2 in Bumgarner’s last 10 road starts.
Writer’s prediction: Bumgarner douses cool water on the red-hot Royals, as Giants win.
