NCAA Big 12 Semifinal Preview – Iowa State Cyclones vs. Kansas Jayhawks

The Kansas Jayhawks can book their return to the Big 12 tournament championship game with a win tonight, but it won’t come easy as they are up against the Iowa State Cyclones, who are keen on playing in their first tournament championship game since 2000.

Iowa State Cyclones vs. Kansas Jayhawks (March 14, 7:00 PM EST)

Line: Iowa State Cyclones (+4) at Kansas (-4); Total: 155.0

Betting on the Iowa State Cyclones

[sc:NCAAB240banner ]The Cyclones avoided losing their last three games in the regular season by beating Oklahoma State, 85-81, and then came through with a 91-85 victory against Kansas State in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 tourney.

Without the feared inside presence of Kansas’ Joel Embiid, the Cyclones could do to the Jayhawks what they did to Kansas State inside. Behind Big 12 player of the year Melvin Ejim and his counterpart Georges Niang, the Cyclones outscored the Wildcats in the paint, 46-34.

Betting on the Kansas Jayhawks

Andrew Wiggins, Kansas Jayhawks, NCAAB

Andrew Wiggins has put up two monster scoring performances in a row coming into this one, tallying 30 points in the Jayhawks’ 77-70 overtime win against Oklahoma State in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 tournament. This came after Wiggins scored 41 points, albeit in a losing effort against West Virginia. Up next for Kansas is a semifinals showdown against the Cyclones, whom the Jayhawks have beaten in their last five meetings. They are also 4-0 ATS in their last four games against Iowa State.

Despite missing Joel Embiid in their last four games, the Jayhawks went 3-1 SU. That’s mainly because of Wiggins, who has scored 24.3 PPG in the four games without his fellow freshman. When Embiid is suited up, Wiggins is only averaging 16.3 PPG.

Prediction – Iowa State Wins and Covers

Melvin Ejim and Georges Niang will run amok in the shaded area and Kansas will learn how much they’re going to miss Joel Embiid in the Madness, even if Andrew Wiggins comes up with another huge game.
