Betting on the New York Mets (-170)

The New York Mets extended their winning streak to two games with a thrilling 4-3 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday. Noah Syndergaard was solid once again for the Mets, allowing just three runs on eight hits in six innings of action to win his sixth consecutive decision. The victory came at a huge price, though, for New York as Syndergaard (elbow) and Yoenis Cespedes (wrist) departed the game with injuries.

The Mets will look to sustain the momentum of that huge win when they lock horns with the Atlanta Braves tonight. Pitching for New York in the series opener is Matt Harvey (4-9, 4.76 ERA). The Dark Knight faced the Braves on Friday, surrendering four runs on seven hits en route to his ninth defeat of the season. This was the first time in four starts that Harvey has allowed more than one run in an outing. He is 2-5 with a 4.70 ERA in eight starts away from Citi Field this season.

With Harvey still a big question mark at this point, the onus is on the Mets hitters to provide some much-needed runs tonight. With Cespedes out for the foreseeable future, the pressure is on Asdrubal Cabrera to deliver the goods for New York. He homered for the second straight day and drove in two runs in the Mets’ 4-3 victory over the Royals on Wednesday.  Cabrera now has eight home runs and 24 runs batted in this season.  He is 2-of-5 in his career against Atlanta starter Matt Wisler.

The Mets are 7-0 in their last seven road games against the Braves. They are pegged at +500 to win the National League pennant.

Betting on the Atlanta Braves (+150)

The Atlanta Braves had their six-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday with a gut-wrenching 3-0 defeat to the Miami Marlins in their series finale. The Braves had no answer for Miami pitcher Adam Conley who pitched eight shutout innings. With the loss, Atlanta dropped down to 24-47 in the NL East standings.

The Braves will look to return to the win column when they face the New York Mets tonight. Starting for Atlanta in this National League matchup is right-hander Matt Wisler (3-7, 4.23 ERA). He produced one of his best performances of the season in his last start against the Cincinnati Reds, allowing just two earned runs over 6.2 innings pitched. It was a huge bounce-back outing by Wisler who surrendered a combined 13 runs over his previous two starts.

That being said, the Braves will also need to pull their weight on the offensive end if they are to beat the Mets in the series opener. The Braves will rely on the red-hot Freddie Freeman to carry them through tonight. He is batting .458 (11-of-24) in his last six games with a homer and four RBIs. The first baseman is 3-of-15 in his career against Mets starter Matt Harvey with one RBI. The Yankees also need A.J. Pierzynski to rack up some hits tonight. He is 6-of-9 lifetime against Harvey with a pair of RBIs.

The Braves are 4-6 in their last 10 home games. They are priced at +100,000 to win the World Series this year.
