It’s the final curtain call for many second, third and fourth stringers. Heck, maybe even a few starters as well. Sorry Brandon Browner. Too soon?
Anyhow, for many, the final week of the preseason may be their final action all year. Then again, most teams have thinned out quite a bit and will only have a few cuts left. This final week is where we’ll see the starters actually get a good look at what’s to come. It’s also the week where fantasy owners everywhere (who have already drafted) sit on pins and needles hoping that their players don’t pull a Romo in the last week of the mean nothings. It’s week four of the preseason, now let’s get down to business!

NFL Preseason Week Four Predictions and Preview
Wednesday August 31
Washington Redskins (+3) vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-3)
As far as preseason standards go, this will be an exciting game to watch. The revamped Redskins defense taking on a very athletic young quarterback in Jameis Winston. Will Tampa head coach Dirk Koetter let his young slinger run wild? Likely, within reason. You don’t want your starting golden child injuring themselves before opening kickoff next week. With that said, you do want your offensive line to make the necessary game time adjustments to his movements. Should be an interesting tilt on both sides of the ball.
Writer’s Prediction: Take Tampa Bay to win but not to cover.
Injury Prediction: Doug Martin – the guy is made of glass. Fantasy owners beware in this game.
Thursday September 1
New York Jets (+4) vs Philadelphia Eagles (-4)
The New York Jets need to get Ryan Fitzpatrick up to speed. Enough of the Geno Smith project. He’s the number two, period. Now focus on FitzMagic to get the Jets on track for the upcoming year. His contract dispute definitely didn’t help his progression for the year ahead. The team needs to get him moving. With that, they need to take the preseason leash off the man and let him play his game in this final matchup. Easier said than done, but even with the risk of injury, the Jets need to let their main man play like he’s used to.
Writer’s Prediction: They’ll do just that. Fitzpatrick and the Jets win and cover.
Injury Prediction: Ryan Mathews – He’s now their main back and is injury-prone.
Jacksonville Jaguars (+3.5) vs Atlanta Falcons (-3.5)
Get ready to watch the young defense of the Jacksonville Jaguars force Matt Ryan out of the pocket time and time again. We’re going on record to say that the Jaguars are within a year or two of having the best defense in the league. Following an injury plagued and missed rookie season, Dante Fowler Jr is ready to terrorize at defensive end. Super Bowl 50 champion and free agent acquisition Malik Jackson will also be ready on the d-line. Draft sleeper Myles Jack will slot in at linebacker, while their fifth overall pick Jalen Ramsey will solidify the corner. This game is the final dress rehearsal but it could also be one hell of a sneak preview for an absolutely electric defensive set.
Writer’s Prediction: Jacksonville’s D plays huge but the offense crumbles. Falcons win by two field goals.
Injury Prediction: Dante Fowler Jr. We love the guy but coming off a torn ACL is tough stuff.
New England Patriots (+3) vs New York Giants (-3)
This game will mark Jimmy Garoppolo’s final mean nothing matchup before finally breaking off the training wheels. The kid is ready to start the season for the New England Patriots in Tom Brady’s absence and he will be tested. Watch for him to throw to all sides, nooks and crannies of the field on Thursday. For New York, watch for Sterling Sheppard to see a ton of action. He is likely to be New York’s number two wide out with Victor Cruz likely to get injured again. Watch for the Giants to go to Cruz sparingly to try and keep him fresh. In the meantime, look for SS to play like OBJ in this one.
Writer’s Prediction: Jimmy’s gonna put the moves on the Giants. New England by 10.
Injury Prediction: James White. Just cause.
Houston Texans (-3) vs Dallas Cowboys (+3)
After Brock Osweiler scorched the earth last week and Dak Prescott etched his name into the starting slot in Dallas, we find ourselves in a pretty huge preseasy tilt. Brock has absolutely nothing to prove through the air but will be forced to try find a starting number two and three receiver. Lamar Miller will likely see quite a few touches as well. Meanwhile, on the other side, the Cowboys seriously can’t afford to lose another quarterback. That would be the end of their season, so fingers are crossed that Prescott survives. It’ll be nice to see the two young QB’s play with the pressure off, if we were you though, we wouldn’t expect fireworks out of this game.
Writer’s Prediction: Houston by 7 because Brock will be looking for targets to emerge.
Injury Prediction: Alfred Blue. He’s going to try and make a name of himself. He will too – on the IR.
