Betting on the Ohio State Buckeyes (odds)
Record: 15-4 Overall / 9-4 Conference
The Buckeyes are going streaking. They have won all their last four games against the likes of the Wisconsin Badgers and more recently, the Iowa Hawkeyes. In their 89-85 win over the Hawkeyes on the road last Thursday, the Buckeyes further showed that they can keep up with high-scoring teams. After all, Ohio State is fourth in the nation in adjusted offensive efficiency with 120.6 points per 100 possessions and third in the conference with 77.7 points per game. Ohio State’s shooting clicked against the Hawkeyes, as the Buckeyes went 14 of 32 from deep. The Buckeyes could test their 3-point shooting early against Maryland, which isn’t a great perimeter-defending team. As of this writing, Maryland is allowing opponents to nail 8.1 threes per game on 35.,5 percent accuracy. One of the reasons why Ohio State is high on offensive efficiency is the team’s careful handling of the rock. The Buckeyes are 19th in the nation with just 10.3 turnovers per game.
Ohio State is 7-3 against the spread in its last 10 games overall.
Betting on the Maryland Terrapins (odds)
Record: 10-9 Overall / 4-8 Conference
The Terrapins are coming off a loss on Frida to the Penn State Nittany Lions on the road, 55-50. Maryland shot horribly from the field, making just 35.4 percent of their shots and only 17.6 percent (3-14) of their 3-point attempts. Unlike Ohio State, Maryland doesn’t have an elite offense, but the Terrapins are no slouches either when they have the ball. The Terps entered the Penn State game 33rd in the nation with 111.7 points per 100 possessions and 66th with a 35.0 percent shooting from behind the arc. In their 70-64 road win over the Badgers last December, the Terrapins managed to shoot 50 percent from the field against that tough Wisconsin defense.
Dating back to 2016, Maryland is 4-0 straight up and 4-0 against the spread in home games against the Buckeyes. Last year, Maryland defeated the Buckeyes in College Park, 67-55 as 3-point home favorites.
Writer’s Prediction
Ohio State wins, 74-71.
