OKC Thunder vs Charlotte Hornets Predictions, Picks, Odds and Betting Preview – January 13 2018

The Charlotte Hornets face an uphill climb to get even to a .500 record. A win over the Oklahoma City Thunder would do more than add to the team’s win total but also give Charlotte a shot in the arm. Will they get a win at the expense of the Thunder? Or will Russell Westbrook and the Thunder get their first win in four games?

The Thunder are embarrassing themselves. Despite a stacked roster, they are just 20-22 through their first 42 games of the season. They are riding a three-game losing streak, which includes a loss to the going-nowhere Phoenix Suns last Sunday. The losing will stop at one point for Oklahoma City, and that might come this Saturday against another underachieving team in the form of the Hornets. Despite all the losing, Russell Westbrook continues to be a constant force for the Thunder. The reigning MVP is putting up 25.1 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 10 assists per game. Paul George and Carmelo Anthony have not been producing much of late, though, with them averaging only 18.0 points and 16.0 points in the last three games, respectively. The key for the Thunder against Charlotte is defense, where they are usually great at, as they did not fare well on the defensive end when they lost to the Hornets last December, 116-103. Charlotte averages just 104.4 points this season but had 12 points more in the previous tussle with the Thunder. On the season, the Thunder, who are 5-1 SU and 4-2 ATS in their last six trips to Charlotte, are fourth in the NBA with 101.6 points allowed per game.

Dwight Howard is having a terrific season that has not been noticed by a lot of people. Nevertheless, the big man is putting up the work, Howard is averaging a double-double of 15.6 points and 12.1 rebounds to go with 1.3 blocks per game this season. The 32-year-old big man gave the Thunder headaches in the first meeting this season when he scored 23 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the field. He also had seven rebounds and two blocks. Apart from Howard, the Hornets have Kemba Walker, who is leading the team in points (21.8) and assists (5.8). The Hornets also have a clear advantage in bench scoring over the Thunder. Charlotte’s relievers are scoring 37.3 points per game, while OKC’s second unit is making just 23.9 points per game.
The Hornets are 6-4 ATS in their last 10 home games versus Oklahoma City/Seattle dating back to 2006.

Writer’s Prediction:

The Thunder breaks their slump with a 105-101 win.
