Betting on the Penn State Nittany Lions (+17.5)

Things have gotten bad at Penn State. After losing to then-no. 3 Iowa Hawkeyes back in Week 7, the Nittany Lions enjoyed a bye then were greeted by a 28-18 overtime loss at home at the hands of the Illinois Fighting Illini last Saturday. That’s a painful blow to whatever chances the Nittany Lions had of making the College Football Playoff following their loss to Iowa. But Penn State isn’t just about to lose its composure. For one, its schedule is still replete with ranked opponents, including Ohio State. Despite the loss to the Fighting Illini, Penn State managed to finish that game without turning the ball over, while forcing Illinois to commit three. As long as the Nittany Lions prevent getting Ohio State extra possessions through turnovers, they will have a shot at stealing a win down in Columbus. They entered the Illinois game averaging just 1.0 giveaways per game.
Speaking of which, Penn State is 2-0 against the spread in its last two games against the Buckeyes as the road team.
Betting on the Ohio State Buckeyes (-17.5)
Record: 6-1 Overall / 4-0 Conference
The Buckeyes extended their win streak to five games after crushing the Indiana Hoosiers on the road last Saturday, 54-7. Granted that they haven’t faced a ranked opponent since their loss to the Oregon Ducks at home earlier this season, the Buckeyes’ defense looks sturdy. Ohio State has not allowed more than 20 points at any point during their current win streak. The team has also surrendered only 37 points total in its last three games. Meanwhile, the Buckeyes’ offense is humming. Expect the Buckeyes to make feed their rushers with plenty of touches out of the backfield this coming Saturday against Penn State’s run defense that had just been thoroughly exposed by the Fighting Illini. Illinois rushed for 357 yards and a touchdown on 67 carries against the Nittany Lions. Ohio State, on the other hand, entered Week 8 ranked second in the nation with 6.2 rushing yards per carry and 25th with 207.1 rushing yards per game.
Ohio State is 4-0 against the spread in its last four games overall.
Writer’s Prediction
Ohio State wins, 28-24.
