FAVORITES

Jon Rahm (+1400)

Rahm is still winless this season, but he just continues to pump out results that drive bettors to trust him still. He is coming off a T17 in the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard, which makes it six made cuts for Rahm in a row. Over that stretch, Rahm has had a T3 and a T10 in the Farmers Insurance Open and in the WM Phoenix Open, respectively. Rahm is 4 of 5 at TPC Sawgrass, including a top-10 finish in the 2019 edition of THE PLAYERS Championship.

Rory McIlroy (+1800)

McIlroy hasn’t played in a lot of tournaments so far this season, but he’s a perfect 3 of 3. He’s not finished worse than 13th in any of those starts and even has a win already, topping the field in THE CJ CUP @ SUMMIT last October. Last Sunday, he settled with a T13 in the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard. At TPC Sawgrass, McIlroy has gone 6 of 12 with four top 10s and five top 25s. He has won here before in 2019 with a 16-under 272 score to win that year’s THE PLAYERS Championship.

Justin Thomas (+1400)

Thomas is a perfect 6 of 6 this season after finishing sixth in The Genesis Invitational last February. He has not seen action in the PGA TOUR since, but definitely is a golfer to watch out for this week at TPC Sawgrass. After all, he is the defending THE PLAYERS Championship champion having won it in 2021 for a cool sum of $2.7 million.

HIGH-VALUE SLEEPERS

Billy Horschel (+5000)

Ranked 22nd in the world, Horschel is having quite a solid season. He has made the cut in all of his seven starts to date and is coming off a T2 in the Horschel. So far, he has two top 10s and five top 25s this season. He is only 6 of 9 with zero top 10s in his career at TPC Sawgrass, but if his trend holds, he could be making big waves this week.

Talor Gooch (+6600)

Gooch had a solid start to the season, going 4 of 4 in his first four starts with each start producing a result no worse than a T11. He is also coming off a T7 in the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard last Sunday. In 2021, he made the cut in THE PLAYERS Championship and finished fifth.

LONG SHOTS

Richy Werenski (odds)

Werenski finally snapped a streak of six consecutive missed cuts when he finished with a T28 in the Puerto Rico Open last week. He was cut in the 2021 THE PLAYERS Championship but was 2 of 2 in the previous editions of the tournament.

Jimmy Walker (odds)

Walker is 5 of 11 this season and has missed the cut in both of his last two starts. He is also 7 of 12 at TPC Sawgrass with a pair of top 10s.

Writer’s Prediction

Rory McIlroy wins the 2022 THE PLAYERS Championship.
