The 2023 Valspar Championship will be underway this week. Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy, and Scottie Scheffler are among the top golfers expected to have success at TPC Sawgrass, but here are three sleepers who could be making even louder noises there. Ranked 63rd in the world, Perez has gone 5/5 in his last five starts worldwide. That stretch includes his win at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship 2023. The 2023 Valspar Championship will also be Perez’s first appearance in the 2022-23 PGA TOUR season. In his most recent start, Perez finished with a T13 at the Ras Al Khaimah Championship back in February.
The 35-year-old Swede has made the cut in each of his last four PGA TOUR starts, with two top 10 in that span. He had a T10 at The Honda Classic last February and then followed a T70 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard in March with a T6 at THE PLAYERS Championship last week. Overall this season, he is 7/14 with four top 10-s and five top 25s. He hasn’t cracked the top 25 in four starts at Innisbrook Resort (Copperhead Course), but he’s 4/4 there, dating back to 2013.
Gerard is 2/2 in the 2022-23 PGA TOUR season. He finished fourth at The Honda Classic and then posted a T11 at the Puerto Rico Open. He has also made the cut in all of his last four worldwide starts, which includes a T3 at the Astara Golf Championship presented by Mastercard back in February.
