Regular Season Record: 0-2
The Eagles got blanked in a 35-0 loss at the hands of the New England Patriots at home in Week 2 of the NFL preseason, but there’s no reason to hit the panic button still for them. The important thing right now for Philly is that quarterback Jalen Hurts is just fine after he was scratched just before the Patriots game because of an abdominal issue that was deemed non-serious. Hurts could have a shot at playing this coming Friday against the Jets, and that could spell a big difference for the Eagles, who also saw the debut of prized rookie wide receiver DeVonta Smith in Week 2. Smith looked completely over from a recent MCL sprain, as he caught two of four targets for 19 yards. It would be interesting the chemistry Hurts and Smith could have on the field in Week 3 if both plays.
The under is 2-1 in the Eagles’ last three preseason games.
Betting on the New York Jets (-4)
Regular Season Record: 2-0
In what world are 2-0 after two games? Well, in the preseason, obviously. Zach Wilson and the Jets collected their second win of the preseason by downing the Green Bay Packers in Week 2 on the road, 23-14. The Jets must be liking what they’re seeing from rookie quarterback Zach Wilson. The former BYU Cougars signal-caller completed 9 of 11 throws for 128 passing yards and a couple of touchdowns — both scored by tight end Tyler Kroft. But it was Wilson’s rapport with wideout Corey Davis. The veteran caught four of six targets for 40 receiving yards. Davis and Kroft could deal heavy damage downfield again this week against the Eagles’ defense that allowed 279 passing yards on 23-of-31 completions to the Patriots last Saturday. Also watch out for the Jets’ defense that forced three turnovers against Green Bay.
The Jets are 3-0 in the Jets’ last three games in the preseason.
Writer’s Prediction
The Jets win, 23-19.
