Betting on the Philadelphia Phillies (14-23)
The Phillies will be coming off another ugly outing. They fell to the Rangers for the second consecutive night, 9-3, and went scoreless in the first six innings. Starter Zach Elfin got blasted too, allowing seven runs on 11 hits in just four innings, while only striking out one. Following the defeat, Philly has now dropped 13 its last 16 games and is stuck at last place of the National League-East standings.
Attempting to do better is Nick Pivetta, which basing on how he has played, doesn’t look good. The rookie has stats that tell he is indeed a neophyte – 0-2 in three starts with a 6.14 ERA.
Batting-wise, the team is pretty average – their .256 clip is right up there with the league’s norm. In terms of having reliable weapons, however, they are thin, with Cesar Hernandez (47 hits, .305/.371/.444) being the lone guy on the club to provide a real threat. Philly is in the league’s bottom half in total hits, homers, and RBIs.
Betting on the Texas Rangers (21-20)
The Rangers, on the other hand, are almost a complete opposite of the Phillies. Wednesday’s win was their seventh in a row, and they may be on the way to climbing the American League-West standings.
In last night’s victory, Texas went 17-for-34, with one homer and eight RBIs, as they scored the first eight runs of the contest. Jared Hoying and Delino DeShields led the way, as both tallied four hits and combined for four runs.
It was a great night for the two seldomly-used men, especially the second-year Hoying, who saw himself crush the first dinger of his major league career. His 4-for-4, one-homer, and three-run performance might possibly the most memorable game of his life to date.
Elvis Andrus, Rougned Odor, and Nomar Marza, meanwhile, the team’s three key hitters, collectively went 4-for-13.
With the their next starter on the mound, Martin Perez earning an ugly 0-4 card with a 4.88 ERA in his last five starts, the Rangers are hoping to get another big-time contribution from the offense.
Writer’s Prediction
