Betting on Roger Federer (-2,000)
With his parents in attendance, Roger Federer made it a point to deliver a fantastic showing in the second round of Wimbledon. He did just that by eliminating Serbia’s Dusan Lajovic from the tournament in straight sets, 7-6(7), 6-3, 6-2.
The all-time winningest male tennis player at the All England Club admitted to feeling nervous prior to his match against Lajovic. But in the end, Federer still proved why he’s one of the heavy favorites to win the entire tournament by punching in nine aces and winning 81 percent of his chances at points on first serve.
Despite his age of 35, Federer has yet to show signs of slowing down on the Grand Slam stage that has made him a household name in the sporting world. Since 2013, the Swiss superstar has won an Open Era record-tying seven Wimbledon crowns and has failed to reach the semifinal round of the tournament just once (2013).
All things considered, Federer’s track record in England speaks volumes of his chances at pulling away with another impressive victory this Saturday against his third-round opponent in World No. 30 Mischa Zverev.
Betting on Mischa Zverev (+1,000)
Germany’s Mischa Zverev came away with another pivotal win at the All England Club, needing all five sets (6-1, 6-2, 2-6, 3-6, 6-4) to defeat Kazakhstani Mikhail Kukushkin in their second-round clash.
The win gives Zverev his second-career third-round appearance at Wimbledon and his first since 2008. But despite his gritty showing against Kukushkin, one can’t help but be skeptical of his chances at pulling off an upset over Federer this weekend. Since 2010, the 29-year-old lefty has only one appearance in Wimbledon’s main draw, which resulted to an early first-round exit back in 2011. He failed to qualify for the tournament proper on four other occasions and opted to sit out the tournament entirely in the two remaining instances.
Furthermore, the elder of the ATP Tour’s Zverev brothers has gone winless in four lifetime meetings against Federer; two of those losses came this year at another grass-court tournament (Gerry Weber Open) and a different Grand Slam event (Australian Open).
Throwing in the fatigue factor from the marathon of a second-round match, Zverev’s odds of advancing to the next round is basically slim to none.
