After a four-game home series against the San Francisco Giants, the Padres hit the road for a new four-game set versus the Rockies. The Padres are scheduled to start Sean Manaea for Game 1 of the series this coming Monday. Manaea isn’t having lots of success this season, as he owns just a 4.18 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP to go with a 3-4 record. And in his last start, Manaea gave up 4 earned runs on 8 hits in just 3.1 innings on the mound during an 8-2 loss to the Seattle Mariners on July 4. If anything, Manaea seems to like pitching at night this season, as he is 3-1 with a 3.46 ERA in 11 evening starts. Manny Machado and Eric Hosmer headline the Padres’ offense that is getting solid production from those players of late.
Betting on the Colorado Rockies (+1.5)
Regular Season Record: 38-48
The Rockies are coming off a four-game series on the road against the Arizona Diamondbacks and will be playing the rest of the first half of the 2022 MLB season at home, beginning this Monday. It’s uncertain as of this writing who the Rockies will be starting in the series opener against San Diego, but in any case, the team will be looking for its offense to show up. Colorado’s offense is slightly better than the Padres’. CJ Cron will hope to play in this game after getting hit in the wrist with a fastball in a recent outing. Meanwhile, Charlie Blackmon and Connor Joe are producing nicely this season for Colorado. Blackmon is slashing .262/.315/.450 heading into the final game of the Diamondbacks series while Joe is batting .268 during the same time frame. Kris Bryant, meanwhile, is 3-for-4 with a pair of homers in his career vs. Manaea.
Writer’s Prediction
The Rockies win, 6-4.
