St. Louis Cardinals vs. Atlanta Braves Betting Preview

Betting on the St. Louis Cardinals

After dropping four straight road games, the St. Louis Cardinals seemed to have found their rhythm away at Busch Stadium when they recorded their second straight road victory with a 4-3 win against the Atlanta Braves on Monday night.

[sc:MLB240banner ]The Cardinals now take aim on winning three in a row with converted starter Tyler Lyons taking the mound for the second game of the three-game series. Lyons (0-2, 4.20 ERA) is yet to win this season, giving up six runs in 12 innings as a starter.

Despite getting tagged with lots of runs when Lyons was on mound, the Cardinals have gone under the totals in three of his last four starts. In addition, the under is 4-1 in Lyons’ last five road starts.

That’s partly because St. Louis wasn’t able to produce runs themselves. In Lyons’ last two starts, the Cardinals only have scored just twice.

Though they scored nine in their last two games, the Cardinals remain one of the worst run-producing teams in the MLB. They are 24th in the majors in total runs (119) and 20th in batting average (.247).

Betting on the Atlanta Braves

Justin Upton, MLB, Atlanta Braves

The freefall continues for the Atlanta Braves, who have now surrendered their top spot in the National League East division after losing seven straight games.

With almost every aspect of their game in trouble, from pitching to hitting, the Braves hope to regain their footing beginning tonight. The Braves are 10-3 in their last 13 Game 2’s of a series.

In lieu of the injured Ervin Santana (thumb), the Braves will pin their hopes on 10-year veteran Gavin Floyd. The right-hander, who is coming off a Tommy John surgery, hasn’t started since last year as a Chicago White Sox.

With Floyd’s long layoff, it’s hard to know what to expect from him. But whether he’ll throw a shutout tonight or not, the Braves’ batting certainly must show up. Atlanta is 29th in the majors in runs (99) and 27th in batting average (.233).

Prior to last night’s loss to the Cardinals in which they managed three runs, the Braves only had a run in each of their last three home games. That being said, the under is 6-0 in Atlanta’s last six games at Turner Field.

Writer’s Prediction

With the unreliable Lyons and a returning Floyd dueling tonight, both teams will have a field day scoring runs. Take the game to go over 8.0.
