The Chiefs will go as far as where Patrick Mahomes carry them. He’s led them to the Super Bowl, and there’s any doubt in the Chiefs’ minds that they will be able to win it all by defeating the 49ers in Miami Gardens. Doing that is going to be easier said than done, but Mahomes has made a career out of making things look easy on the football field when there’s no such thing as a cinch in the NFL. Mahomes enters Super Bowl 54 with eight passing touchdowns and a rushing score in the playoffs. He’s not thrown an interception yet, too. Surrounded by dangerous offensive weapons, even San Francisco’s defense could struggle in containing the former Texas Tech Red Raiders star signal-caller.

Jimmy Garoppolo is the highest-paid player on the current 49ers roster, but he was barely a factor in the team’s 37-20 win in the NFC title game over the Green Bay Packers in Santa Clara. Instead, it was the 49ers’ defense and running back Raheem Mostert who carried most of the load. The 49ers’ stop unit has simply been unforgiving this season, and that quality was on full display in the win over the Packers in which they sacked Aaron Rodgers three times and had two interceptions off of him. Garoppolo, who’s being paid over $17 million this season, threw just eight passes against Green Bay. Mostert, meanwhile, had 220 rushing yards and four touchdowns. Not bad for someone being paid only $1.4 million this season by San Francisco.
