Betting on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-3)

Happy days are back in Tampa Bay…for now.

The Buccaneers, who were fresh off a massive beat down from Cam Newton and the Panthers, successfully bounced back with a thrilling 38-31 victory at the expense of the Jaguars in their Week 5 matchup. That win was a special one as it marked the end of their 11-game losing streak at home.

[sc:NFL240banner ]QB Jameis Winston and RB Doug Martin made sure of the win with solid performances. Winston redeemed himself from his worst pro performance by leading the way by converting 13 of his 19 passes for 209 yards and a touchdown, while recording a 122.5 quarterback rating. Martin, meanwhile, was spectacular, running for 123 yards on 24 carries with two touchdowns. He also hauled in three catches for 35 yards and another touchdown under his belt.

After getting the bye in Week 6, the Bucs return to action and will strive is sustain their momentum for their upcoming game showdown with the banged-up Washington Redskins at FedEx Field on Sunday afternoon. They ought to be pretty confident about this face off as their opponents are currently having trouble in stopping the running game—which is the Bucs’ best weapon this season.

Expect the Bucs to lean heavily on Martin to build on his previous performance and lead their ground attack that is averaging 4.1 yards per carry, which good for ninth-best in the NFL this season. The 26-year-old has accumulated a team-best 405 rushing yards with three touchdowns on 90 rushes across five games.

Tampa Bay is 3-7 SU and 6-4 ATS in its past 10 road games.

Betting on the Washington Redskins (2-4)

Alfred Morris

Any remnants of optimism from their 23-20 triumph over the Eagles in Week 3 seem to be completely gone as the Washington Redskins suffered yet another setback on Sunday, falling 34-20 to the New York Jets. They have now lost three of their last four games and are currently on a two-game skid.

This defeat was definitely a tough one to digest for the Burgundy and Gold, who started the game pretty well. They owned a 13-10 advantage at halftime but eventually doomed themselves in the third quarter by allowing the Jets to score 17 unanswered points. Quarterback Kirk Cousins, who finished the game 25-of-43 for 196 yards with a touchdown, gave up a pair of costly third quarter interceptions that resulted into scores.

In all fairness, though, the Redskins were missing several of their injured starters, including wide receiver DeSean Jackson, left tackle Trent Williams and starting cornerbacks, DeAngelo Hall and Chris Culliver. This may be a valid excuse for the team’s lack of consistency; however, it doesn’t mean it’s alright to lose games and especially the winnable ones.

The Redskins, who now have a 2-4 record on the season, absolutely have to win their next game this weekend against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in order to at least hit the bye week an a high. For that to happen, Cousins has got to be more consistent by limiting his turnovers and by utilizing their ground attack—which only managed to generate a mere 34 yards versus the Jets—much better.

That being said, the responsibility falls on RB Alfred Morris to wake up from his recent struggles. Morris has been held to just 96 yards in his last three games but could finally be in for a huge offensive explosion against an underwhelming Buccaneers front seven (120.4  rushing yards allowed per contest).

The Redskins’ supposedly solid run defense has been terrible the previous two weeks, allowing two consecutive running backs to compile more than 140 yards rushing. The Redskins will have to keep Martin from being the third if they’re to end their slump.

Washington is 4-6 SU and 4-5-1 ATS in its last 10 meetings with Tampa Bay.

Writer’s Prediction

The Redskins (-3.5) win, 24-13.
