When it first became a tournament in 1967, the purse total was only at $250,000 with Jack Nicklaus taking home the top prize worth $50,000. A little over five decades later, participants of the tournament are all going for the biggest slice of the purse, which is worth $1.62 million, the same amount Bryson DeChambeau took home in 2018 when he topped the field at Ridgewood Country Club. Prior to 2018, the total payout at the Northern Trust was $8.5 million in 2017 and $8.25 in 2016. Dustin Johnson won the 2018 edition and pocketed $1.575 million, while Patrick Reed won in 2017 to earn $1.530 million.
