Betting on the Utah State Aggies (+7.5)
Record: 10-3 Overall / 6-2 Conference
Utah State made sure to make noise before the bowl season, as it took down the then-no. 19 San Diego State Aztecs in the Moutain West title game to the tune of a 46-13 score. That was a pretty dominant performance by the Aggies, who were led by Logan Bonner. The quarterback went 29/42 for 318 passing yards and four touchdowns with an interception against the Aztecs. Wide receiver Brandon Bowling embarrassed San Diego State’s secondary with 154 receiving yards and a couple of touchdowns on eight catches. That has been the kind of season for the Aggies. Utah State has a top 20 passing attack and an offense that is averaging 33.2 points per game. Apart from Bowling, the Aggies also have Deven Thompkins, who is third nationally with 122.2 receiving yards per contest.
Utah State is 6-1 against the spread in its last seven games overall.
Betting on the Oregon State Beavers (-7.5)
Record: 7-5 Overall / 5-4 Conference
Although they failed to beat the Oregon Ducks in their regular-season finale, the Beavers should still be given a passing mark this year for clinching a ticket to a bowl game. Among Oregon State’s best wins this season was a 42-34 victory over the eventual Pac-12 champions Utah Utes at home back in October. Like Utah State, the Beavers love to trust their players in gaining yards on the ground. In fact, the Beavers entered Week 14 of the 2021 college football season 20th in the nation with a 57.71 rush play percentage and 12th with 216.9 rushing yards per game. B.J. Baylor finished the regular season tops in the Pac-12 with 1,259 rushing yards. Baylor could be a barometer for the Beavers this upcoming bowl game, as Oregon State went 5-1 in six games that he rushed for 100 yards.
Oregon State is 6-1 against the spread in its last seven games against a team with a winning record.
Writer’s Prediction
Oregon State wins, 33-27.
