Experts Picks for the 2015 PGA John Deere Classic

Sports Chat Place

Expert Picks
Randy Chambers Zach Johnson, Steve Stricker, Robert Streb, Chad Campbell, Jordan Spieth

[sc:Golf240banner ]Randy Chambers of Sports Chat Place believes there’s plenty of value to be made from the John Deere Classic with a relatively weak field of golfers to choose from. He gives us several players to pick from, all posting plenty of value. But Chambers also notes three hot picks to win the John Deere Classic with Zach Johnson, Steve Stricker and Jordan Spieth.

Johnson packs a bit of a punch to win the tournament. He’s been excellent at TPC Deere Run. Johnson has already won this tournament in 2012 with an incredible 20-under par 264. As one of the hottest players in this field by finishing in the top-20 in five of his last six tournaments, Johnson is a hot pick to win this tournament.

Stricker is also quite appealing considering his three straight John Deere Classic titles, including a tournament record 26-under par 258 in 2010. However, he’s played in just seven events and made five cuts this year. Stricker is a nifty sleeper pick, but if you want to play it safe, then Chambers notes that Spieth is the safest choice among the three. Spieth is well-rested and the best golfer in this field. He also won this even in 2013, so he should be very familiar with TPC Deere Run.

Sporting News

Expert Pick
Alex Brzezinski Jordan Spieth

Sporting News’ Alex Brzezinski notes that there hasn’t been a John Deere Classic winner or runner-up not named Zach Johnson or Steve Stricker since 2009. The two players have very similar games; they both hit the ball straight off the tee and are excellent wedge players.

While it’ll be interesting to see whether Johnson, Stricker, or even both of them can contend this week, Brzezinski believes that Jordan Spieth is the man to beat at the tournament. Spieth won the John Deere Classic in 2013, and has been on a tear this year with two major titles. Though his driving accuracy was problematic at Chambers Bay, Spieth will have a manageable course to work with in TPC Deere Run.

Top Bet

Expert Pick
Top Bet Zach Johnson

We here at Top Bet are high on Jordan Spieth. The Masters and U.S. Open Champion has been on fire this year with 11 top 10 finishes. He has also sizzled in recent tournaments with three top three finishes in his last four events.

But here comes Zach Johnson looking to steal the 21 year old’s thunder. Johnson is also having quite a successful season thus far with seven top 10 finishes in 18 tournaments, with two of those top 10 finishes coming from his last three events. Johnson has also finished no worse than third in his last four starts in the John Deere Classic. He won the tournament in 2012 and finished as the runner-up for the past two years.
