Donald Young
It’s been arguably another disappointing year for Donald Young, who was once heralded as the next American superstar after having such a historic junior career. He is only 13-15 this season, and is coming off a pair of second-round exits at Washington and in the Canadian Masters. But fans can look forward to a strong performance from Young at this week’s event in Atlanta—his hometown. He has never missed a year playing there, and definitely knows this tournament better than most of the participating players.
Guillermo Garcia-Lopez
Unlike the American above, Guillermo Garcia-Lopez is hoping to leave a positive first impression at Atlanta. He has never played in this tournament before, but that shouldn’t stop him from standing toe to toe with anyone in the competition.
The Spanish veteran has gradually formed a strong liking to hard courts this season. A testament to that was when he reached the final at Shenzhen, China, where he unfortunately fell short to eventual champion Tomas Berdych in straight sets.
Garcia-Lopez, perhaps, could leave many stunned with a successful campaign this time around. He is the favorite (-180) to win against Horacio Zeballos in the opening round.
Sergiy Stakhovsky
Sergiy Stakhovsky has yet to make a big mark this season. Simply put, he’s only managed to beat opponents of relatively the same skill level or ranking. Well, the 30-year-old Ukrainian, who has made it to at least the Round of 16 in three of his previous five tournaments, might finally be able to earn some attention with a couple of upsets at Atlanta this week. He’s priced at -130 to beat Ivan Dodig in the opening round.
