It’s a big week in the 2021-22 PGA TOUR. FAVORITES
Scottie Scheffler (+1200)
With four wins already this season, Scheffler is definitely among the top golfers to watch out for at the 2022 US Open. Scheffler recently missed the cut at the 2022 PGA Championship, but he recaptured his terrific form right away with a second-place finish at the 2022 Charles Schwab Challenge and a T18 at the 2022 RBC Canadian. Scheffler, who finished with a T7 in last year’s edition of the US Open, is second this season with 71.49 greens in regulation percentage and has 8 top 19s and 12 top 25s this season, thus far.
Justin Thomas (+1400)
Thomas is looking to win his second major of the season. He won the 2022 PGA Championship last May but failed to sustain that form when he got surprisingly cut at the 2022 Charles Schwab Challenge. But Thomas did not make his fans wait long before he came up with another strong performance, as he finished third at the 2022 RBC Canadian Open. He now has cracked the top 5 in three of his last four starts and the top 10 in four of his last six. Thomas is 9 of 15 this season with 11 top 25s, three top 3s, and nine top 10s.
Jon Rahm (+1600)
Rahm is looking to bag his second major title of his career. The first one he won was the 2021 US Open, making him the defending champion of this week’s grand event at The Country Club. He is also in good form heading into the 2022 US Open, having gone as he hasn’t missed the cut in any of his last 12 PGA TOUR starts. After going winless in the first several months of the season, Rahm finally snagged one when he topped the field at the 2022 Mexico Open at Vidanta last May before going with a T48 at the 2022 PGA Championship and a T10 at the Memorial Tournament.
HIGH-VALUE SLEEPERS
Abraham Ancer (+6600)
Here’s what we said about Abraham Ancer in our preview of the 2022 US Open sleepers:
Ancer should deserve a look from those hunting for a 2022 US Open sleeper. For one, he is third so far this season with a driving accuracy percentage of 70.03. He also has gone 12 of 17 with three top 10s and four top 25s. He finished strong at the recent 2022 PGA Championship, where he went T9 before missing the cut at the 2022 Charles Schwab Challenge. He managed to recover quickly, though, going with a T32 at the Memorial Tournament. Other strong performance he has had this season includes a T5 at the World Golf Championships-Dell Technologies Match Play and a T7 at the World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba.
Adam Scott (+6600)
Here’s what we said about Abraham Scott in our preview of the 2022 US Open sleepers:
The 41-year-old Scott is still looking for his first win of the season. He is coming off a T67 at the 2022 Memorial Tournament and was cut in the prior 2022 PGA Championship. He’s not at the top of his form lately, but at his price, Scott is worthy of attention as a sleeper with good boom potential. He is 11 of 13 this season with three top 25s, as he had a T5 at THE CJ CUP @ SUMMIT, T4 at The Genesis Invitational, and a T9 at the World Golf Championships-Dell Technologies Match Play. Scott is also 17th overall this season in terms of driving distance average (311.6).
LONG SHOTS
Lee Westwood (+25000)
Westwood is just 3 of 4 in his last four PGA TOUR starts and 4 of 9 overall this season. He is also 0 of 3 in his last three worldwide starts.
Ian Poulter (+25000)
Ian Poulter is 9 of 14 this 2021-22 PGA TOUR season but has not cracked the top 10 so far this campaign in any event. He’s got three PGA TOUR wins in his career though and 12 international victories.
Writer’s Prediction
Scottie Scheffler wins the 2022 US Open.
