Steven Bowditch
You don’t really hear much of Bowditch’s name in the current PGA Tour season, but expect experts to mention the 15-year pro often this week. Because in case you don’t know, Bowditch is the reigning and defending Byron Nelson champion.Bowditch was on fire in last year’s edition of the tournament, setting a record score of 18-under 259. Whether he’ll bring that kind of game again to Irving this year remains to be seen, but a combination of his recent success there and six-straight missed cuts should give him odds worthy of a sleeper tag entering the 2016 Byron Nelson.
William McGirt
McGirt has yet to win this season but you have to know he has one of the hottest clubs of late. After missing the cut in consecutive events (Puerto Rico Open at Coco Beach and Shell Houston Open), McGirt turned it up a bit and by that we meant finishing with a couple of top 17 finishes in two of his three next events.
He’s cooled a bit in The Players Championship having dropped 20 places to T43, but not before recording a sizzling 65 in the second round. In 15 events on the season (not counting The Players), McGirt has four top 10 finishes and eight top 25’s.
Matt Kuchar
Like McGirt, Kuchar (+1,800) is on a solid run despite remaining winless this season. Kuchar has cracked the top 10 three times this season and he’s poised to increase that to four, as he’s currently tied for third in The Players. Regardless if he doesn’t win at TPC Sawgrass, Kuchar will continue to look ripe for his first win of the season moving forward. That is, of course, until he shows signs of slowing down.
