2016 Memorial Tournament Purse Breakdown
The Total Payout
There is money to be made at Muirfield Village. The Memorial Tournament boasts a total purse of $8.5 million, with a hefty $1.53 million of that going to the eventual winner. That’s great news for this week’s field considering the total payout last year amounted to only $6.2 million. To put into perspective the difference in prize money, defending champion David Lingmerth earned just $1.116 million in cash last year. That’s $414,000 less than the amount the Memorial champion will receive this year. Additionally, the Memorial purse will increase by $200,000 each year through 2021.
Finishing second in this event ain’t that bad either with the runner-up receiving a payout of $918,000. On the other end of the leaderboard, the 70th or so golfer to make the cut this week will earn around $17,000.
