There is money to be made in the Sunshine State. The Players Championship offers the highest prize fund of any tournament in golf with a total of $10.5 million at stake in this week’s event. That’s great news for the 144-man field considering the total payout last year amounted to just $10 million.
To put into perspective the difference in prize money, defending champion Rickie Fowler earned $1.8 million in cash last year. That’s $90,000 less than the amount the PLAYERS champion will receive this week. Finishing second in this tournament ain’t bad either with the runner-up receiving a payout of $1.134 million. On the other end of the leaderboard, the 70th or so golfer to make the cut this week will earn around $21,000.
