2016 Quaker State 400 Sleeper Picks and Predictions
Where: Kentucky Speedway, Kentucky
When: Saturday, July 9, 7:30 PM ET
Martin Truex (+650)
Denny Hamlin (+1,200)
Hamlin has been pretty good in Kentucky. That is, when he gets to finish the race. He’s finished third twice at the track, but has also crashed out twice. Hamlin hasn’t won since claiming the Daytona 500 at the start of the season. But as he showed in the previous week in Sonoma, where he finished second despite leading the most laps, it’s not a good idea to sleep on him.
Chase Elliott (+1,500)
Chase Elliott is losing a bit of steam after consecutive races finishing outside the top 20. But look for the very impressive rookie to bounce back and challenge for his very first Sprint Cup win in Kentucky. Elliott has had very good performances on intermediate tracks. He should’ve won in Michigan, but had to settle for second. He also finished a strong sixth in the Sprint All-Star Race.
Elliott may be a rookie, but he does have the experience of two top-4 finishes at Kentucky Speedway from his time in the Xfinity Series.
