Henrik Stenson (+3,000)
It’s all right to have a quizzical reaction while looking at Stenson’s name here. But the fact is, Stenson hasn’t been playing like a contender of late. He’s missed the cut in the last two events, namely the Wells Fargo Championship and the Players Championship. That’s after he finished T24 in the Masters Tournament back in April. All those factors will likely give Stenson relatively higher odds, considering he’s ranked No. 7 in the world. And then there’s always the bounce-back narrative that fits Stenson’s current situation well: a solid golfer who’s ripe for a win after a muddy stretch.
Danny Willett (+2,500)
Willet just won the Masters and has yet to finish worse than T28 (save for a missed cut in the Players Championship), albeit in only six tourneys thus far on the season. That being said, Willet’s odds right now to win the U.S. Open are higher than the likes of Justin Rose, Adam Scott, and Hideki Matsuyama.
With that in mind, we have to say Willet is a sleeper despite being ranked No. 9 in the world. Partly to blame for the public’s lack of recognition of Willet’s accomplishments could be his playing mostly in Europe, where he’s first in the Race to Dubai—the equivalent of the FedEx Cup in The European Tour.
Branden Grace (+4,000)
Currently ranked 26th in the FedEx Cup, Grace is a golfer to watch out for in the upcoming US Open. It’s easy for casual bettors to overlook his name, given his high odds that sit on +4,000 on most sportsbooks. But with a couple of strong finishes over his last three tournaments, which includes a win in the RBC Heritage and a T9 in the Valero Texas Open, Grace is looking like a terrific player to bet on considering his odds and strength of play of late.
As for the tangibles, Grace appears to be a fit at Oakmont with a 68.06 green in regulation percentage. That’s 36th overall among PGA Tour players this season.
