2016 Presidential Election Delegate Race Update

Republicans

The Republican primary race is pretty much in the books, folks. With his victory at Indiana this Tuesday, Donald Trump now has a commanding lead over his competition, needing to secure just 224 of the 445 remaining pledged delegates from nine states that have yet to hold their primary elections.

Trump could very well seal the deal by simply winning California and New Jersey, who already account for 223 pledged delegates that he needs to win the Republican nomination even before the convention. And in spite of the myriad of controversies and backlash that he has received throughout his campaign, the brash yet utterly-determined mogul is still on-par to run away with the Republicans’ support.

Trump vs Cruz

Not even the announcement of appointing former Hewlett-Packard CEO and unsuccessful 2016 Republican Presidential nominee, Carly Fiorina, could save Ted Cruz and his attempt to overthrow Trump’s domination of the polls. This unfortunate clip from a recent rally pretty much sums up how Cruz’s campaign is panning out.

Another aspiring candidate that failed to keep up with Trump’s solid push in Jeb Bush had also decided to show his support for the Texas senator. However, not even the collaborative effort of the Republicans looking to prevent Trump from taking over the United States has been able to slow down that machine. Cruz’s loss in Indiana added another nail to his campaign’s coffin, and a win for Trump at California (which he’s likely going to win) will inevitably put this race to rest.

Democrats

On paper, the Democratic race is much closer than it seems compared to that of the Republican’s side. Then again, Hillary Clinton already has over half of the Democratic delegates’ votes thus far (55 percent), and that’s good enough to consider her as the runaway nominee for the party.

The former U.S. Secretary of State is confident enough at winning the race that she has already focused her attention on strategizing for the highly-anticipated clash with Trump. Clearly, Clinton managed to stave off her feisty competition with flying colors, thus leaving her plenty of breathing room to prepare for the real battle ahead.

Clinton vs Sanders

We have to give a ton of credit to Bernie Sanders, though, for putting together one of the greatest insurgent Democratic campaigns in recent memory. He still needs landslide victories from the remaining delegates (roughly 75 percent of the votes on average), so his run at the nomination is pretty much cooked already.

Nevertheless, Sanders’ insurgency is a landmark moment for the Democratic Party’s future in general. The Brooklyn-twanged senator from Vermont has paved the way as for how to tap into the Millennial Generation’s good graces, and this will prove ever so pivotal for Democrats in the upcoming 2020 Presidential race.

Plus, Sanders has a killer 404 page on his official website, which is just one reason as for why he had a strong backing from the younger, social media-driven demographic.

Writer’s Prediction

Make no mistake about it: The Donald will represent the Republicans, while Hillary will lead the way for the Democrats.
